About me


Welcome to my website! I am PhD candidate in Sociology in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

My academic background includes training in both sociology and policy, as I obtained my M.Sc in Public Policy in Renmin University of China, and my bachelor degree in Public Policy in Sun Yat-sen University, during which I participated a one-year exchange program in Sciences Po in Aix in France.

Before joining the PhD program, I had ten years of cross-industry work experience, ranging from the government sector and state-owned enterprises to the electronic finance industry. My most recent work experience was serving as the Director of Market Development at Ant Financial, a digital-finance-based subsidiary of the Alibaba Group.

My research interests encompass a variety of fields, including sociology of work and labor, organizational sociology, science and technology studies, and China studies. My work primarily utilizes qualitative and comparative methods.

At the moment, I am working on my PhD thesis focusing on the work ethics and employment relations under China’s state technationalist agenda. Drawing upon ethnography and in-depth interviews in two start-ups in Chinese high-tech manufacturing and services sectors, I aim to unearth employees’ work ethics (e.g., lying flat, involution) and their interactive patterns with managers, providing novel lens to the “labour-state” and “labour-capital” relations under China’s state technationalist agenda.

I have published a book chapter Consumer Logics in International Encyclopedia of Business Management with my PhD supervisor Professor Anson Au (ansonau.net). I have won the Work, Professions and Occupations Research Cluster Best Student Paper Award in the Canadian Sociological Association 2025 Conference.
